Walking on Treadmill

Instructions

1
Stand upright on the treadmill belt with feet shoulder-width apart, facing forward. Maintain an neutral spine with shoulders back and chest up. Grip the handlebar lightly for balance support.
2
Set the treadmill to your desired speed and incline. Begin walking or jogging at a comfortable pace to establish your running pattern and rhythm on the moving belt.
3
As your leg extends backward in the gait cycle, allow the quadriceps to lengthen as your knee bends and your leg prepares for the next step. Control the descent of your body weight onto the treadmill surface.
4
Drive your leg forward and upward, extending through the knee as you push off from the treadmill belt. Simultaneously, bring your opposite leg forward, maintaining a steady cadence and propelling your body forward with each stride.

Overview

If you want to isolate and overload the Quadriceps, the Walking on Treadmill is an excellent addition to your routine. The mechanics of this Cardio exercise specifically bias the Cardio, while the use of Leverage machine allows for a smooth, natural resistance curve.

Benefits

  • Improves overall Cardio stability and proprioception during heavy loads.
  • Acts as a highly scalable Cardio movement, perfect for both beginners and elite athletes.
  • Allows for a natural movement path that closely mimics functional daily activities.

Common Mistakes

  • Rushing the repetition tempo instead of focusing on the mind-muscle connection with the Cardio.
  • Using excessive momentum to swing the Leverage machine rather than controlling the eccentric phase.
  • Losing core tension, leading to poor spinal alignment and reduced power output.
  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Quadriceps engagement.

Pro Tips

If you feel this primarily in your joints rather than the Quadriceps, instantly lower the weight and readjust your Leverage machine setup.

Beginner Tips

If you are new to the Walking on Treadmill, focus on mastering the movement pattern with zero weight before adding Leverage machine.
