1
Stand with feet hip-width apart, holding a barbell or staff across shoulders behind head with hands shoulder-width apart. Maintain an upright torso with neutral spine alignment and core engaged.
2
Position the bar securely across the upper back (trapezius), not on the neck. Ensure feet are planted firmly with weight distributed evenly across midfoot. Engage core and maintain neutral head position looking forward.
3
Lower your body by bending at the hips and knees simultaneously, keeping knees tracking over toes and chest upright. Descend until thighs reach parallel to the ground or slightly below, maintaining bar stability and weight in midfoot.
4
Drive through midfoot and heel to extend knees and hips simultaneously, returning to standing position. Maintain upright torso throughout the ascent and fully extend hips and knees at the top before beginning next repetition.
