Stationary Bike Run

Instructions

1
Sit on the stationary bike seat with back against the backrest, feet placed on the pedals at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions. Adjust seat height so knee has slight bend when foot is at lowest pedal position. Grip the handlebar with both hands for stability.
2
Place both feet flat on the pedals with the ball of the foot on the pedal platform. Maintain upright posture with core engaged and shoulders relaxed. Establish a comfortable resistance level on the bike.
3
Push down and forward with one leg while allowing the other leg to pull back and up, completing the pedal rotation. Lower through the full range of motion in a controlled manner, feeling the quadriceps lengthen as the knee extends.
4
Drive the pedal forward and upward, engaging the quadriceps to extend the knee and propel the pedal through the bottom of the stroke. Continue pedaling in smooth, circular motions maintaining consistent cadence and resistance throughout the movement.

Overview

When programming for Quadriceps growth, the Stationary Bike Run stands out as a highly efficient Cardio choice. Performing this movement with Leverage machine forces your stabilizer muscles to work in tandem with the primary movers, translating to functional strength and enhanced muscular endurance.

Benefits

  • Promotes balanced muscular development by effectively recruiting the Quadriceps and associated synergists.
  • Acts as a highly scalable Cardio movement, perfect for both beginners and elite athletes.
  • Allows for a natural movement path that closely mimics functional daily activities.
  • Reduces the likelihood of Cardio injuries by reinforcing connective tissue strength.

Common Mistakes

  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Quadriceps engagement.
  • Using excessive momentum to swing the Leverage machine rather than controlling the eccentric phase.
  • Shrugging the shoulders or compensating with secondary muscles rather than isolating the Quadriceps.

Pro Tips

Control the eccentric (lowering) phase of the Stationary Bike Run for 3-4 seconds to drastically increase time under tension.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Quadriceps. However, the movement also recruits Gluteus Maximus, Hamstrings, Gastrocnemius, Soleus to maintain control of the Leverage machine.

Exercise Variations

  • Dumbbell Stationary Bike Run
  • Cable Stationary Bike Run
  • Banded Stationary Bike Run

Beginner Tips

If you are new to the Stationary Bike Run , focus on mastering the movement pattern with zero weight before adding Leverage machine.
