1
Sit upright on the bench with back firmly against the backrest, feet flat on the floor or footrest. Position yourself centered in the Smith machine with the bar at approximately mid-chest level.
2
Grip the barbell with hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart. Ensure a firm, neutral grip with wrists straight. Take a deep breath and brace your core.
3
Slowly lower the barbell toward your chest in a controlled manner by allowing your elbows to bend and move outward. Lower until the bar approaches chest level or a comfortable range of motion is reached, maintaining control throughout.
4
Press the barbell away from your chest by extending your arms, driving through your mid-chest. Return to the starting position at chest level without locking out elbows completely at the top.
