1
Sit upright on the Smith machine bench or seat with back against the backrest, feet flat on the floor. Position the barbell at upper chest/shoulder height with hands slightly wider than shoulder width.
2
Grip the barbell with an overhand grip (palms facing away) at shoulder width or slightly wider. Ensure shoulders are packed and core is engaged. The bar should rest across the front deltoids.
3
Lower the barbell in a controlled manner by bending the elbows and allowing them to flare slightly outward. The bar path moves downward toward the upper chest/clavicle area until elbows reach approximately 90 degrees of flexion.
4
Press the barbell upward explosively by extending the elbows and driving through the deltoids, pushing the bar vertically overhead to full arm extension. Return to starting position at shoulder height and repeat for prescribed reps.
