1
Stand upright within the Smith machine frame with feet shoulder-width apart, positioned under the barbell at mid-chest height. Grip the barbell with both hands at shoulder width using an overhand grip.
2
Place the balls of your feet on the platform or ground with heels elevated or ready to rise. Engage your core and maintain neutral spine alignment. Position yourself so the barbell rests comfortably across your upper back and shoulders.
3
Lower your heels toward the ground in a controlled manner, allowing the calf muscles to lengthen and stretch. Keep your knees slightly bent and stable throughout the descent.
4
Press through the balls of your feet to drive your heels upward, rising onto your toes as high as possible. Squeeze the calf muscles at the top position, then lower again with control to complete the repetition.
