1
Stand inside the Smith machine frame with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent. Grasp the barbell with a wide overhand grip (hands wider than shoulders). Position yourself so the bar is at mid-chest height when arms are extended.
2
Engage your core and maintain a neutral spine. Pull your shoulders back slightly to establish proper scapular positioning. Keep a slight bend in your knees throughout the movement.
3
In a controlled manner, allow the barbell to lower as your arms extend upward and forward. This creates a lengthening of the latissimus dorsi muscle. Maintain core tension and avoid arching your lower back excessively.
4
Powerfully pull the barbell downward and toward your torso by driving your elbows down and back. Squeeze your shoulder blades together at the bottom position. Return to the starting position with control, completing one repetition.
