1
Stand inside the Smith machine with feet shoulder-width apart, positioned under the barbell. Place the barbell across your upper back and shoulders, gripping with both hands at shoulder width or slightly wider. Maintain an upright torso with neutral spine alignment.
2
Establish a stable stance with feet flat on the floor, directly beneath your shoulders. Engage your core and maintain a neutral head position. Take a deep breath to stabilize your midsection before initiating the movement.
3
Lower your body by bending at the knees and hips simultaneously, keeping your chest upright and weight distributed through your midfoot to heel. Descend until your thighs are parallel to the ground or slightly below, maintaining knee alignment over your toes throughout the descent.
4
Drive through your midfoot and heels to extend your knees and hips, returning to the starting position. Maintain control throughout the ascent and avoid locking out knees at the top. Exhale as you press upward to complete the repetition.
