1
Stand upright inside the Smith machine with feet shoulder-width apart, positioned midway under the barbell. Place the barbell across the upper back and shoulders, gripping it with both hands at approximately shoulder width.
2
Engage your core and maintain a neutral spine with chest up and shoulders back. Position feet approximately 12 inches in front of the barbell to allow for proper knee tracking during the descent.
3
Lower your body by bending at the knees and hips simultaneously, descending until thighs are parallel to the ground or slightly below. Keep weight in the heels and maintain an upright torso throughout the descent phase.
4
Drive through the heels and extend the knees and hips explosively to return to the starting standing position. Maintain controlled movement and avoid locking out the knees at the top of the movement.
