1
Stand upright inside the Smith machine rack with feet hip-width apart on the platform, positioned so the barbell rests across the upper back and shoulders. Maintain an upright torso with core engaged and neutral spine alignment.
2
Position the balls of your feet on the edge of the platform with heels extending off the edge. Grip the barbell with hands slightly wider than shoulder-width. Unrack the barbell and stabilize your position before beginning the movement.
3
Lower your heels below the platform level in a controlled manner, allowing a full stretch through the calf muscles. Keep the barbell stable and maintain contact with the platform through the balls of your feet. Lower to a comfortable depth without bouncing.
4
Push through the balls of your feet and raise your body upward by extending the ankles, lifting the heels as high as possible above the platform. Achieve a full calf contraction at the top of the movement, hold briefly, then return to the starting position with controlled tempo.
