1
Stand upright inside the Smith machine with feet positioned shoulder-width apart, approximately mid-foot under the bar. Position the bar across the upper back and shoulders, holding it with both hands at shoulder-width grip.
2
Engage your core and maintain a neutral spine with chest up and shoulders back. Keep your weight distributed through your mid-foot and heel. Position your feet slightly ahead of your body.
3
Initiate descent by simultaneously flexing at the hips and knees, pushing your hips backward as if sitting into a chair. Lower your body until your thighs reach parallel to the ground or slightly below, maintaining an upright torso position.
4
Drive through your mid-foot and heel to extend your hips and knees simultaneously, returning to the starting standing position. Squeeze your glutes at the top of the movement before beginning the next repetition.
