RKC Plank

Instructions

1
Start in a kneeling position on both knees with torso upright, core engaged, and hands positioned behind the head or across the chest for support and balance
2
Maintain an upright torso alignment with neutral spine, engage core muscles, and ensure knees remain planted firmly on the ground throughout the movement
3
Lower the body forward by allowing the torso to lean toward the thighs while maintaining knee extension, controlled descent using quadriceps eccentric strength, hips remain stationary until near completion
4
Drive through the quadriceps to return to the upright kneeling position by extending the knees and pulling the torso back upward, maintaining core tension and avoiding momentum

Overview

The RKC Plank is an incredibly effective Strength movement designed to fully engage the Quadriceps. By utilizing Body weight, this exercise emphasizes a deep stretch and a powerful contraction, making it a cornerstone for anyone looking to optimize their Waist development.

Benefits

  • Utilizes Body weight to create sustained mechanical tension, forcing deep muscle adaptation.
  • Improves overall Waist stability and proprioception during heavy loads.
  • Acts as a highly scalable Strength movement, perfect for both beginners and elite athletes.

Pro Tips

Control the eccentric (lowering) phase of the RKC Plank for 3-4 seconds to drastically increase time under tension.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Quadriceps. However, the movement also recruits Gluteus Maximus, Hamstrings, Rectus Abdominis, Erector Spinae to maintain control of the Body weight.

Exercise Variations

  • Dumbbell RKC Plank
  • Cable RKC Plank
  • Banded RKC Plank
