Place Jog

Instructions

1
Stand upright with feet hip-width apart, arms at sides or in running position, core engaged, and neutral spine alignment
2
Prepare by maintaining an upright posture with shoulders back and eyes forward, ready to drive knees upward in a controlled marching motion
3
Lower the lifted leg by extending the knee and hip, allowing the foot to return toward the ground in a controlled manner while maintaining balance on the standing leg

Overview

If you want to isolate and overload the Quadriceps, the Place Jog is an excellent addition to your routine. The mechanics of this Cardio exercise specifically bias the Cardio, while the use of Body weight allows for a smooth, natural resistance curve.

Benefits

  • Reduces the likelihood of Cardio injuries by reinforcing connective tissue strength.
  • Allows for a natural movement path that closely mimics functional daily activities.
  • Acts as a highly scalable Cardio movement, perfect for both beginners and elite athletes.
  • Significantly enhances the structural integrity and power of the Quadriceps.
  • Promotes balanced muscular development by effectively recruiting the Quadriceps and associated synergists.

Common Mistakes

  • Rushing the repetition tempo instead of focusing on the mind-muscle connection with the Cardio.
  • Losing core tension, leading to poor spinal alignment and reduced power output.
  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Quadriceps engagement.
  • Shrugging the shoulders or compensating with secondary muscles rather than isolating the Quadriceps.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Quadriceps. However, the movement also recruits Gluteus Maximus, Hamstrings, Gastrocnemius, Hip Flexors to maintain control of the Body weight.

Exercise Variations

  • Dumbbell Place Jog
  • Cable Place Jog
