Lever Standing Rear Kick

Instructions

1
Stand facing the machine with feet shoulder-width apart on the platform. Grasp the handles lightly for balance with arms at sides. Maintain upright torso posture with neutral spine alignment.
2
Place one foot on the leg press platform while keeping the other foot firmly planted on the ground platform. Adjust body position so the working leg is positioned comfortably on the machine's padded surface.
3
Slowly lower the working leg by allowing the hip and knee to flex, bringing the leg backward and downward in a controlled manner. Maintain contact with the machine throughout the movement while keeping the standing leg stable.
4
Drive through the heel of the working leg and extend the hip, pressing the leg forward and upward to return to the starting position. Squeeze the glute at the top of the movement before controlling the descent for the next repetition.

Overview

When programming for Gluteus Maximus growth, the Lever Standing Rear Kick stands out as a highly efficient Strength choice. Performing this movement with Leverage machine forces your stabilizer muscles to work in tandem with the primary movers, translating to functional strength and enhanced muscular endurance.

Benefits

  • Significantly enhances the structural integrity and power of the Gluteus Maximus.
  • Promotes balanced muscular development by effectively recruiting the Gluteus Maximus and associated synergists.
  • Utilizes Leverage machine to create sustained mechanical tension, forcing deep muscle adaptation.
  • Reduces the likelihood of Hips injuries by reinforcing connective tissue strength.
  • Improves overall Hips stability and proprioception during heavy loads.

Common Mistakes

  • Losing core tension, leading to poor spinal alignment and reduced power output.
  • Shrugging the shoulders or compensating with secondary muscles rather than isolating the Gluteus Maximus.
  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Gluteus Maximus engagement.

Pro Tips

Control the eccentric (lowering) phase of the Lever Standing Rear Kick for 3-4 seconds to drastically increase time under tension.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Gluteus Maximus. However, the movement also recruits Hamstrings, Quadriceps, Erector Spinae, Adductors to maintain control of the Leverage machine.

Exercise Variations
