1
Sit on the bench with back firmly against the backrest, feet planted on the floor or footrest, hands gripping the handles on either side for stability. Position body upright with neutral spine alignment.
2
Grasp the barbell with hands shoulder-width apart using an overhand grip. Rest the barbell across the front of your shoulders at collarbone level. Keep elbows pointing forward and core engaged.
3
Lower your body by bending at the hips and knees simultaneously, bringing the thighs toward the torso while maintaining an upright torso position. Control the descent to avoid momentum, stopping when thighs reach approximately parallel to the floor or slightly below.
4
Drive through your heels and midfoot to extend the knees and hips, pressing back to the starting seated position. Maintain an upright torso throughout the movement and avoid rounding the lower back at the top position.
