Lever Back Extension

Instructions

1
Sit upright on the machine seat with your back firmly against the backrest, feet positioned flat on the floor or footrest, and grip the handles on either side for stability.
2
Position your feet under the leg extension footpad with knees bent at approximately 90 degrees. Adjust the seat height so the pivot point of the machine aligns with your knee joint.
3
Slowly lower the weight by allowing your knees to flex in a controlled manner, bringing the footpad toward your body until knees reach approximately 90 degrees of flexion without fully relaxing.
4
Drive through your quadriceps to extend your legs, pushing the footpad forward until your knees are nearly straight but not locked. Squeeze the quadriceps at full extension before returning to the starting position.

Overview

Focusing on the Lever Back Extension allows you to target the Quadriceps with precision. As a foundational Strength exercise, the integration of Leverage machine provides the necessary tension to trigger hypertrophy, while avoiding excessive joint strain.

Benefits

  • Improves overall Back stability and proprioception during heavy loads.
  • Reduces the likelihood of Back injuries by reinforcing connective tissue strength.
  • Significantly enhances the structural integrity and power of the Quadriceps.
  • Utilizes Leverage machine to create sustained mechanical tension, forcing deep muscle adaptation.

Common Mistakes

  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Quadriceps engagement.
  • Shrugging the shoulders or compensating with secondary muscles rather than isolating the Quadriceps.
  • Using excessive momentum to swing the Leverage machine rather than controlling the eccentric phase.

Pro Tips

Think about pulling from your elbows rather than your hands to better isolate the Quadriceps and minimize bicep/forearm takeover.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Quadriceps. However, the movement also recruits Vastus Medialis, Vastus Lateralis, Rectus Femoris, Tibialis Anterior to maintain control of the Leverage machine.

Beginner Tips

If you are new to the Lever Back Extension , focus on mastering the movement pattern with zero weight before adding Leverage machine.
