1
Stand facing a flat bench with feet hip-width apart, arms at sides or slightly raised for balance. Position yourself at a distance where you can step up comfortably onto the bench surface.
2
Engage your core and maintain an upright torso. Step one foot firmly onto the bench, pressing through the heel to initiate the movement. Keep your chest up and shoulders back.
3
Lower your body back down by stepping down from the bench in a controlled manner, allowing the trailing leg to extend toward the ground. Resist the urge to drop; maintain tension throughout the descent.
4
Step up onto the bench by driving through the heel of the leading foot, extending the trailing leg forward or upward for balance. Push through the front leg to return to standing position on the bench. Step down and repeat on alternating legs.
