1
Grasp the pull-up bar with both hands using an overhand or underhand grip, approximately shoulder-width apart. Hang from the bar with arms fully extended and core engaged, body straight from shoulders to ankles.
2
Maintain a firm grip on the bar. Engage your core by bracing your abdominal muscles. Keep your legs together and prepare to lift by initiating hip flexion.
3
From the hanging position, slowly lower your legs by extending your hips and knees in a controlled manner, allowing gravity to lengthen the abdominal muscles through spinal extension.
4
Powerfully contract the rectus abdominis and iliopsoas muscles to lift your legs upward toward the chest, flexing at the hips and spine. Bring knees to chest or legs to horizontal position, then return to hanging position with control.
