Groin Crunch

Instructions

1
Lie supine on the floor or exercise mat with knees bent, feet flat on the ground approximately hip-width apart, and feet positioned close to the glutes. Maintain neutral spine alignment with lower back lightly in contact with the mat.
2
Place hands gently behind the head with fingers loosely interlaced, elbows pointing outward. Engage core muscles by drawing navel toward spine. Keep tension minimal in the neck and shoulders.
3
Lower the torso back toward the floor in a controlled manner, allowing the spine to extend slightly while maintaining core tension. Do not fully relax or rest the shoulders completely on the mat. Inhale during this lengthening phase.
4
Drive through the core to lift the torso upward, curling the shoulders toward the pelvis in a controlled crunch motion. Exhale as you perform the concentric phase, contracting the rectus abdominis maximally at the top of the movement before returning to the starting position.

Overview

The Groin Crunch is an incredibly effective Strength movement designed to fully engage the Rectus Abdominis. By utilizing Body weight, this exercise emphasizes a deep stretch and a powerful contraction, making it a cornerstone for anyone looking to optimize their Waist development.

Benefits

  • Promotes balanced muscular development by effectively recruiting the Rectus Abdominis and associated synergists.
  • Utilizes Body weight to create sustained mechanical tension, forcing deep muscle adaptation.
  • Improves overall Waist stability and proprioception during heavy loads.

Common Mistakes

  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Rectus Abdominis engagement.
  • Using excessive momentum to swing the Body weight rather than controlling the eccentric phase.
  • Losing core tension, leading to poor spinal alignment and reduced power output.
  • Rushing the repetition tempo instead of focusing on the mind-muscle connection with the Waist.

Pro Tips

Keep your breathing rhythmic: exhale sharply on the concentric push/pull, and inhale smoothly on the way down.

Exercise Variations

  • Dumbbell Groin Crunch
  • Cable Groin Crunch
  • Banded Groin Crunch

Beginner Tips

If you are new to the Groin Crunch, focus on mastering the movement pattern with zero weight before adding Body weight.
