Front and Side Knee Drive

Instructions

1
Stand with feet hip-width apart, arms at sides or ready position. Maintain upright posture with neutral spine and engaged core throughout the movement.
2
Begin from standing position with weight distributed evenly on both feet. Prepare to explosively extend through the ankles, knees, and hips while swinging arms upward for momentum generation.
3
Lower body by flexing at the knees and hips in a controlled manner, descending into a partial squat position while simultaneously bringing arms down toward hip level.
4
Explosively extend through the ankles, knees, and hips, driving upward off the ground to achieve vertical height. Swing arms overhead as body rises, landing softly back to starting position on balls of feet, then settling heels. Repeat in continuous explosive motion.

Overview

When programming for Quadriceps growth, the Front and Side Knee Drive stands out as a highly efficient Cardio choice. Performing this movement with Body weight forces your stabilizer muscles to work in tandem with the primary movers, translating to functional strength and enhanced muscular endurance.

Benefits

  • Allows for a natural movement path that closely mimics functional daily activities.
  • Acts as a highly scalable Cardio movement, perfect for both beginners and elite athletes.
  • Improves overall Plyometrics stability and proprioception during heavy loads.
  • Reduces the likelihood of Plyometrics injuries by reinforcing connective tissue strength.

Common Mistakes

  • Losing core tension, leading to poor spinal alignment and reduced power output.
  • Rushing the repetition tempo instead of focusing on the mind-muscle connection with the Plyometrics.
  • Using excessive momentum to swing the Body weight rather than controlling the eccentric phase.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Quadriceps. However, the movement also recruits Gluteus Maximus, Hamstrings, Gastrocnemius, Rectus Abdominis to maintain control of the Body weight.

Exercise Variations
