Frog Glute Bridge

Instructions

1
Lie supine on your back with legs extended, arms at sides with palms down for support, torso relaxed against the floor, and head neutral.
2
Engage core and press lower back slightly into floor. Keep one leg extended on the ground while preparing to lift the other leg.
3
Slowly lower the lifted leg toward the floor in a controlled manner, extending the knee while keeping the hip flexed, allowing the quadriceps to lengthen under tension.
4
Drive through the quadriceps to lift the leg back up to starting height with a controlled motion, focusing on knee extension. Return to the top position and repeat for desired reps before switching legs.

Overview

If you want to isolate and overload the Rectus Femoris, the Frog Glute Bridge is an excellent addition to your routine. The mechanics of this Strength exercise specifically bias the Hips, while the use of Body weight allows for a smooth, natural resistance curve.

Benefits

  • Promotes balanced muscular development by effectively recruiting the Rectus Femoris and associated synergists.
  • Improves overall Hips stability and proprioception during heavy loads.
  • Utilizes Body weight to create sustained mechanical tension, forcing deep muscle adaptation.
  • Reduces the likelihood of Hips injuries by reinforcing connective tissue strength.
  • Significantly enhances the structural integrity and power of the Rectus Femoris.

Common Mistakes

  • Shrugging the shoulders or compensating with secondary muscles rather than isolating the Rectus Femoris.
  • Using excessive momentum to swing the Body weight rather than controlling the eccentric phase.
  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Rectus Femoris engagement.

Pro Tips

If you feel this primarily in your joints rather than the Rectus Femoris, instantly lower the weight and readjust your Body weight setup.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Rectus Femoris. However, the movement also recruits Vastus Lateralis, Vastus Medialis, Iliopsoas, Rectus Abdominis to maintain control of the Body weight.

Exercise Variations
