Overview

If you want to isolate and overload the Biceps, the Dumbbell Zottman Curl is an excellent addition to your routine. The mechanics of this Strength exercise specifically bias the Upper Arms, while the use of Dumbbell allows for a smooth, natural resistance curve.

Benefits

  • Allows for a natural movement path that closely mimics functional daily activities.
  • Promotes balanced muscular development by effectively recruiting the Biceps and associated synergists.
  • Improves overall Upper Arms stability and proprioception during heavy loads.

Common Mistakes

  • Losing core tension, leading to poor spinal alignment and reduced power output.
  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Biceps engagement.
  • Shrugging the shoulders or compensating with secondary muscles rather than isolating the Biceps.

Pro Tips

Think about pulling from your elbows rather than your hands to better isolate the Biceps and minimize bicep/forearm takeover.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Biceps. However, the movement also recruits Brachialis, Brachioradialis, Forearm Flexors to maintain control of the Dumbbell.
