1
Sit on an incline bench with backrest angled 45-60 degrees. Position feet securely under foot pads or have them anchored. Hold dumbbells at chest height with elbows bent and arms crossed over torso, or hold single dumbbell vertically at chest.
2
Grip dumbbells firmly, engage core by bracing abdominals. Maintain neutral spine alignment against bench backrest. Position body with hips and lower back in contact with bench for support.
3
Slowly lower torso backward by extending through the midsection and abdominals in a controlled manner. Lower to 45-60 degree angle behind vertical while maintaining tension in core. Inhale during this lengthening phase.
4
Contract abdominals forcefully to curl torso forward and upward toward thighs. Drive through core engagement to return to starting position with controlled movement. Exhale as you perform the lifting motion, squeezing abdominals at top of movement.
