1
Position yourself in a staggered lunge stance facing a bench or incline platform. Place one knee on the bench with the opposite foot planted firmly on the ground. Maintain an upright torso and neutral spine alignment with core engaged.
2
Grasp a dumbbell with a neutral grip in the hand opposite to the leg on the bench. Allow the arm to hang naturally with a slight bend in the elbow. Retract the scapula slightly to prepare the back muscles.
3
Lower the dumbbell in a controlled manner by allowing the arm to extend downward and slightly forward. Feel the stretch in the lat as the weight descends. Maintain stability in the lunge position and keep the core braced throughout the eccentric movement.
4
Pull the dumbbell upward and backward by driving the elbow toward the hip and engaging the lat. Bring the dumbbell up to approximately rib cage height, focusing on retracting the scapula and pulling with the back rather than the arm. Return to the starting position with control and repeat.
