Dumbbell Hammer Srtict Curl

Instructions

1
Stand upright with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, core engaged, and neutral spine against a wall or in open space. Hold dumbbells at arm's length with palms facing forward (supinated grip) at your sides.
2
Ensure shoulders are relaxed and pulled back slightly. Maintain a firm grip on the dumbbells with wrists in neutral position. Keep elbows stationary and close to your torso throughout the movement.
3
Slowly lower the dumbbells by extending the elbows, controlling the descent over 2-3 seconds. Allow the arms to fully extend (or near full extension) while maintaining tension in the biceps. Keep elbows locked in position beside the body.
4
Drive the dumbbells upward by contracting the biceps, flexing the elbows to bring the weights toward your shoulders. Squeeze the biceps at the top of the movement. Return to the starting position with controlled motion and repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Overview

The Dumbbell Hammer Srtict Curl is an incredibly effective Strength movement designed to fully engage the Biceps Brachii. By utilizing Dumbbell, this exercise emphasizes a deep stretch and a powerful contraction, making it a cornerstone for anyone looking to optimize their Upper Arms development.

Benefits

  • Improves overall Upper Arms stability and proprioception during heavy loads.
  • Utilizes Dumbbell to create sustained mechanical tension, forcing deep muscle adaptation.
  • Acts as a highly scalable Strength movement, perfect for both beginners and elite athletes.

Common Mistakes

  • Rushing the repetition tempo instead of focusing on the mind-muscle connection with the Upper Arms.
  • Using excessive momentum to swing the Dumbbell rather than controlling the eccentric phase.
  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Biceps Brachii engagement.
  • Shrugging the shoulders or compensating with secondary muscles rather than isolating the Biceps Brachii.

Pro Tips

Keep your breathing rhythmic: exhale sharply on the concentric push/pull, and inhale smoothly on the way down.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Biceps Brachii. However, the movement also recruits Brachialis, Brachioradialis, Deltoid Anterior to maintain control of the Dumbbell.
