Cable Standing Front Raise Variation

Instructions

1
Stand facing the cable machine with feet shoulder-width apart, positioned perpendicular to the apparatus. Grasp the cable handle with a neutral grip at approximately chest height, with arm extended away from body.
2
Maintain an upright torso posture with slight knee bend for stability. Engage core muscles and keep shoulders back. Position handle starting position with arm extended outward, creating tension in the cable.
3
Slowly allow the cable handle to move in a controlled arc across the body, bringing the arm inward and slightly across the midline. Resist the cable tension throughout the movement, feeling the stretch in the chest musculature. Inhale during this lengthening phase.
4
Press the handle forward and outward in a wide arc, contracting the chest to drive the arm back to the starting position. Squeeze the pectoralis major at full contraction. Exhale during the concentric movement. Return to starting position with control.

Overview

The Cable Standing Front Raise Variation is an incredibly effective Strength movement designed to fully engage the Pectoralis Major. By utilizing Cable, this exercise emphasizes a deep stretch and a powerful contraction, making it a cornerstone for anyone looking to optimize their Shoulders development.

Benefits

  • Improves overall Shoulders stability and proprioception during heavy loads.
  • Allows for a natural movement path that closely mimics functional daily activities.
  • Utilizes Cable to create sustained mechanical tension, forcing deep muscle adaptation.

Common Mistakes

  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Pectoralis Major engagement.
  • Using excessive momentum to swing the Cable rather than controlling the eccentric phase.
  • Losing core tension, leading to poor spinal alignment and reduced power output.
  • Rushing the repetition tempo instead of focusing on the mind-muscle connection with the Shoulders.

Pro Tips

Think about pulling from your elbows rather than your hands to better isolate the Pectoralis Major and minimize bicep/forearm takeover.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Pectoralis Major. However, the movement also recruits Anterior Deltoid, Triceps, Pectoralis Minor, Serratus Anterior to maintain control of the Cable.
