Cable Reverse grip Pushdown

Instructions

1
Stand facing the cable machine with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, and core engaged. Position yourself at an appropriate distance from the machine so the cable attachment is at arm's length when arms are fully extended.
2
Grasp the cable handle with both hands using an underhand (supinated) grip, keeping hands shoulder-width apart. Allow arms to hang fully extended at your sides with a slight bend in the elbows. Maintain an upright posture with shoulders back and chest up.
3
Slowly lower the handle by extending your elbows, allowing your arms to straighten while maintaining control of the cable tension. Keep elbows stationary and close to your torso throughout the movement. Lower until you reach full elbow extension or near-full extension, feeling the stretch in the biceps.
4
Powerfully curl the handle upward by flexing at the elbows, bringing your hands toward your shoulders. Keep elbows fixed in place and squeeze the biceps at the top of the movement. Return to the starting position in a controlled manner and repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Overview

When programming for Biceps Brachii growth, the Cable Reverse grip Pushdown stands out as a highly efficient Strength choice. Performing this movement with Cable forces your stabilizer muscles to work in tandem with the primary movers, translating to functional strength and enhanced muscular endurance.

Benefits

  • Improves overall Upper Arms stability and proprioception during heavy loads.
  • Promotes balanced muscular development by effectively recruiting the Biceps Brachii and associated synergists.
  • Acts as a highly scalable Strength movement, perfect for both beginners and elite athletes.

Common Mistakes

  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Biceps Brachii engagement.
  • Using excessive momentum to swing the Cable rather than controlling the eccentric phase.
  • Rushing the repetition tempo instead of focusing on the mind-muscle connection with the Upper Arms.

Pro Tips

To maximize the Cable Reverse grip Pushdown , actively squeeze the Biceps Brachii at the peak of the contraction for a full second.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Biceps Brachii. However, the movement also recruits Brachialis, Brachioradialis, Anterior Deltoid to maintain control of the Cable.
