1
Sit on the machine seat with feet flat on the floor or foot platform. Grasp the overhead bar with a wide grip (hands wider than shoulder-width), arms fully extended overhead. Maintain an upright torso against the backrest with a neutral spine.
2
Establish a firm grip on the bar with palms facing down or slightly forward. Plant feet securely and engage core muscles. Take a deep breath to prepare for the pulling motion.
3
Slowly lower the bar in a controlled manner by extending the arms overhead, allowing the shoulders to elevate slightly. Resist the weight of the machine as it pulls the bar upward. Maintain an upright posture throughout the eccentric phase.
4
Pull the bar downward and toward the chest by retracting the shoulder blades and flexing the elbows. Drive the elbows down and back, bringing the bar to approximately chest or upper abdominal level. Squeeze the latissimus dorsi muscles at peak contraction, then slowly return to the starting position with extended arms.
