Cable Low Fly

Instructions

1
Stand centered between the two cable machine columns with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, core engaged, and torso upright. Position yourself equidistant from both pulleys set at approximately chest height.
2
Grasp both cable handles with a neutral grip (palms facing each other). Maintain slight tension in the cables at the starting position with arms extended out to the sides at approximately 90 degrees to the body.
3
Initiate movement by slowly allowing the cables to pull your arms backward and slightly outward in a controlled manner, stretching the chest muscles. Maintain a slight bend in the elbows throughout to protect the shoulder joint.
4
Drive the handles forward and inward in an arc motion by contracting the chest muscles, bringing both hands together in front of your body. Squeeze the pectoralis major at the end range of motion, then return to the starting position with controlled resistance.

Overview

Focusing on the Cable Low Fly allows you to target the Pectoralis Major with precision. As a foundational Strength exercise, the integration of Cable provides the necessary tension to trigger hypertrophy, while avoiding excessive joint strain.

Benefits

  • Promotes balanced muscular development by effectively recruiting the Pectoralis Major and associated synergists.
  • Significantly enhances the structural integrity and power of the Pectoralis Major.
  • Utilizes Cable to create sustained mechanical tension, forcing deep muscle adaptation.
  • Allows for a natural movement path that closely mimics functional daily activities.

Pro Tips

Control the eccentric (lowering) phase of the Cable Low Fly for 3-4 seconds to drastically increase time under tension.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Pectoralis Major. However, the movement also recruits Anterior Deltoid, Triceps, Serratus Anterior, Pectoralis Minor to maintain control of the Cable.

Exercise Variations

  • Dumbbell Cable Low Fly
  • Cable Cable Low Fly
  • Banded Cable Low Fly

Beginner Tips

If you are new to the Cable Low Fly , focus on mastering the movement pattern with zero weight before adding Cable.
