Cable Curl

Instructions

1
Stand facing the cable machine with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, and maintain an upright torso. Position yourself at a distance where the cable is taut but not pulling you forward.
2
Grasp the cable handles with both hands using a neutral to slightly supinated grip (palms facing each other or slightly forward). Keep elbows tucked close to the torso at approximately 90 degrees or slightly less.
3
Slowly lower the handles by extending the elbows in a controlled manner, allowing the weight to pull your arms down toward full extension while maintaining core tension and preventing the torso from leaning backward.
4
Flex the biceps by driving the elbows upward and bringing the handles toward the shoulders in a curling motion. Squeeze the biceps at the peak of the contraction, then return to the starting position with control.

Overview

When programming for Biceps Brachii growth, the Cable Curl stands out as a highly efficient Strength choice. Performing this movement with Cable forces your stabilizer muscles to work in tandem with the primary movers, translating to functional strength and enhanced muscular endurance.

Benefits

  • Acts as a highly scalable Strength movement, perfect for both beginners and elite athletes.
  • Improves overall Upper Arms stability and proprioception during heavy loads.
  • Reduces the likelihood of Upper Arms injuries by reinforcing connective tissue strength.
  • Utilizes Cable to create sustained mechanical tension, forcing deep muscle adaptation.

Common Mistakes

  • Losing core tension, leading to poor spinal alignment and reduced power output.
  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Biceps Brachii engagement.
  • Rushing the repetition tempo instead of focusing on the mind-muscle connection with the Upper Arms.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Biceps Brachii. However, the movement also recruits Brachialis, Brachioradialis, Anterior Deltoid to maintain control of the Cable.

Beginner Tips

If you are new to the Cable Curl, focus on mastering the movement pattern with zero weight before adding Cable.
