Body Throw

Instructions

1
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, arms at sides or extended forward for balance, chest upright, and core engaged
2
Prepare by maintaining neutral spine alignment, keeping weight distributed evenly through both feet, and preparing to drive upward explosively
3
Lower your body by bending at the hips and knees simultaneously, descending into a squat position until thighs are approximately parallel to the ground or slightly lower, keeping chest upright and knees tracking over toes
4
Drive through heels and midfoot to extend hips and knees explosively, propelling body upward off the ground in a jump motion, land softly with bent knees to absorb impact, then immediately descend into the next repetition or hold the top position momentarily

Overview

Focusing on the Body Throw allows you to target the Quadriceps with precision. As a foundational Cardio exercise, the integration of Body weight provides the necessary tension to trigger hypertrophy, while avoiding excessive joint strain.

Benefits

  • Reduces the likelihood of Plyometrics injuries by reinforcing connective tissue strength.
  • Acts as a highly scalable Cardio movement, perfect for both beginners and elite athletes.
  • Promotes balanced muscular development by effectively recruiting the Quadriceps and associated synergists.
  • Improves overall Plyometrics stability and proprioception during heavy loads.

Common Mistakes

  • Using excessive momentum to swing the Body weight rather than controlling the eccentric phase.
  • Rushing the repetition tempo instead of focusing on the mind-muscle connection with the Plyometrics.
  • Shrugging the shoulders or compensating with secondary muscles rather than isolating the Quadriceps.
  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Quadriceps engagement.

Pro Tips

Think about pulling from your elbows rather than your hands to better isolate the Quadriceps and minimize bicep/forearm takeover.

Exercise Variations

  • Dumbbell Body Throw
  • Cable Body Throw
  • Banded Body Throw

Beginner Tips

If you are new to the Body Throw , focus on mastering the movement pattern with zero weight before adding Body weight.
