1
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a barbell across the upper back with hands slightly wider than shoulder-width. Maintain neutral spine with chest up and shoulders back.
2
Position the barbell securely on the trapezius muscles. Engage core and take a deep breath. Position feet so knees track over toes with slight forward knee angle.
3
Initiate the descent by simultaneously flexing hips and knees, lowering the body as if sitting back into a chair. Keep chest upright, weight distributed through mid-foot. Lower until thighs are parallel to ground or slightly below while maintaining neutral spine.
4
Drive through mid-foot and heels to extend hips and knees simultaneously, returning to standing position. Squeeze glutes at top of movement. Exhale during the upward driving phase.
