1
Sit upright on the Smith machine bench with back firmly against the backrest, feet flat on the floor or footrest. Grip the barbell with hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, positioned at upper chest level.
2
Establish a neutral spine with core engaged. Position hands with a pronated (overhand) grip, elbows slightly bent beneath the bar. Ensure wrists are neutral and aligned with forearms.
3
Slowly lower the barbell by bending elbows, allowing the bar to descend toward the upper chest and shoulders. Control the descent through the full range of motion, maintaining an upright torso position without excessive forward lean.
4
Press the barbell upward by extending elbows and driving through shoulders, returning to starting position. Exhale during the pressing motion. Achieve full elbow extension at the top without hyperextension. Return to chest level and repeat.
