1
Sit on the bench with your back against the backrest, feet flat on the ground. The barbell should be resting across your thighs just above the knees, holding it firmly with both hands using an overhand or neutral grip.
2
Position yourself on the bench ensuring your lower back is in contact with the backrest for support. Keep your core engaged and your upper body stable. Rest the loaded barbell across the top of your thighs with hands positioned shoulder-width apart.
3
Slowly lower the barbell by allowing your knees to extend, straightening your legs while keeping the barbell stable on your thighs. Control the descent by resisting the weight of the barbell, feeling tension in the quadriceps as the knee joint straightens.
4
Drive through your heels and contract your quadriceps to lift the barbell back to the starting position by raising your knees toward your torso. Return to the starting seated position with knees bent at approximately 90 degrees.
