1
Lie supine on a flat bench with feet firmly planted on the floor or bench. Position back flat against the bench with shoulders retracted. Grip the dumbbell handles at chest level with elbows bent at approximately 90 degrees and upper arms parallel to the ground.
2
Grip the dumbbells with a neutral or slightly pronated grip (palms facing forward). Position dumbbells at mid-chest level with elbows slightly flared outward, approximately 45 degrees from torso. Stabilize your core and maintain contact with the bench.
3
Slowly lower the dumbbells in a controlled manner by allowing the elbows to descend and slightly flare outward. Descend until dumbbells reach chest level or slightly below, maintaining control throughout the movement. Inhale during this eccentric phase.
4
Press the dumbbells upward and inward by contracting the pectoralis major, driving through the chest. Extend arms without fully locking elbows at the top. Return dumbbells to starting position in a smooth arc. Exhale during this concentric phase.
