1
Sit on a flat bench with back firmly against the backrest. Position feet flat on the floor for stability. Grip the barbell with hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, palms facing forward.
2
Press the barbell up from racked position to full elbow extension at approximately eye level. This is your starting position with arms fully extended.
3
Lower the barbell in a controlled manner by bending the elbows, allowing the bar to descend in a slight arc toward the lower chest. Keep elbows at approximately 45 degrees from the body. Lower until the bar is approximately 1-2 inches from the chest.
4
Drive the barbell upward by contracting the chest muscles and extending the elbows. Push through the hands to return to starting position with arms fully extended. Maintain control throughout the concentric phase.
