Band Lateral Raise

Instructions

1
Stand upright with feet shoulder-width apart, maintaining neutral spine and engaged core. Hold resistance band handles with arms at sides, feet positioned on the band to create tension.
2
Ensure slight bend in elbows and neutral wrist position. Grip band handles firmly with hands at hip level, band underneath feet with equal tension on both sides.
3
Lower arms in a controlled manner by allowing shoulders to depress slightly, maintaining the band tension throughout the descent without letting arms collapse to sides.
4
Drive shoulders upward and laterally by abducting arms to shoulder height in a wide arc. Squeeze deltoids at the top position before returning to starting position in a controlled manner.

Overview

The Band Lateral Raise is an incredibly effective Strength movement designed to fully engage the Deltoids. By utilizing Band, this exercise emphasizes a deep stretch and a powerful contraction, making it a cornerstone for anyone looking to optimize their Shoulders development.

Benefits

  • Acts as a highly scalable Strength movement, perfect for both beginners and elite athletes.
  • Promotes balanced muscular development by effectively recruiting the Deltoids and associated synergists.
  • Reduces the likelihood of Shoulders injuries by reinforcing connective tissue strength.
  • Utilizes Band to create sustained mechanical tension, forcing deep muscle adaptation.

Common Mistakes

  • Using excessive momentum to swing the Band rather than controlling the eccentric phase.
  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Deltoids engagement.
  • Losing core tension, leading to poor spinal alignment and reduced power output.

Pro Tips

Control the eccentric (lowering) phase of the Band Lateral Raise for 3-4 seconds to drastically increase time under tension.

Exercise Variations

  • Dumbbell Band Lateral Raise
  • Cable Band Lateral Raise
  • Banded Band Lateral Raise

Beginner Tips

If you are new to the Band Lateral Raise , focus on mastering the movement pattern with zero weight before adding Band.
