Band Kneeling Preacher Curl

Instructions

1
Stand facing the cable machine with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent. Grasp the cable handle with both hands using an underhand (supinated) grip at approximately waist height. Position yourself at a distance where the cable is taut but arms are not fully extended.
2
Maintain an upright torso with shoulders back and core engaged. Keep elbows tucked close to the sides of your body throughout the movement. Ensure the cable remains taut and your grip is firm on the handle.
3
Slowly extend your arms by straightening your elbows, allowing the cable to pull your hands downward and away from your body in a controlled manner. This lengthening phase should take approximately 2-3 seconds. Maintain tension on the biceps throughout the descent.
4
Reverse the motion by flexing your elbows and pulling the handle back toward your torso using bicep strength. Keep elbows stationary and fixed at your sides. Return to the starting position with a controlled, powerful movement over 1-2 seconds. Squeeze the biceps at the top of the movement.

Overview

Focusing on the Band Kneeling Preacher Curl allows you to target the Biceps Brachii with precision. As a foundational Strength exercise, the integration of Band provides the necessary tension to trigger hypertrophy, while avoiding excessive joint strain.

Benefits

  • Significantly enhances the structural integrity and power of the Biceps Brachii.
  • Allows for a natural movement path that closely mimics functional daily activities.
  • Acts as a highly scalable Strength movement, perfect for both beginners and elite athletes.

Common Mistakes

  • Losing core tension, leading to poor spinal alignment and reduced power output.
  • Using excessive momentum to swing the Band rather than controlling the eccentric phase.
  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Biceps Brachii engagement.

Pro Tips

Think about pulling from your elbows rather than your hands to better isolate the Biceps Brachii and minimize bicep/forearm takeover.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Biceps Brachii. However, the movement also recruits Brachialis, Brachioradialis, Deltoids, Trapezius to maintain control of the Band.
