Band Face Pull

Instructions

1
Stand facing the cable machine with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, core engaged, and neutral spine alignment. Position yourself at a distance where the cable forms a straight line from the attachment point to your hands.
2
Grasp the cable handle with both hands using an underhand grip (palms facing up) with hands shoulder-width apart. Keep elbows tucked close to your torso at approximately 90 degrees, positioned slightly in front of your body.
3
Slowly extend your arms forward and downward in a controlled manner, allowing the cable to pull your hands away from your body while maintaining a slight bend in the elbows. Keep your elbows stationary and resist the cable tension throughout the movement.
4
Flex your biceps and pull the cable handles back toward your torso by bending your elbows, driving your forearms upward and inward. Squeeze the biceps at the top of the movement for one second, then slowly reverse the motion to return to the starting position with controlled tension.

Overview

If you want to isolate and overload the Biceps Brachii, the Band Face Pull is an excellent addition to your routine. The mechanics of this Strength exercise specifically bias the Shoulders, while the use of Band allows for a smooth, natural resistance curve.

Benefits

  • Allows for a natural movement path that closely mimics functional daily activities.
  • Utilizes Band to create sustained mechanical tension, forcing deep muscle adaptation.
  • Improves overall Shoulders stability and proprioception during heavy loads.

Common Mistakes

  • Rushing the repetition tempo instead of focusing on the mind-muscle connection with the Shoulders.
  • Losing core tension, leading to poor spinal alignment and reduced power output.
  • Failing to achieve a full range of motion, which drastically limits Biceps Brachii engagement.
  • Shrugging the shoulders or compensating with secondary muscles rather than isolating the Biceps Brachii.

Pro Tips

To maximize the Band Face Pull, actively squeeze the Biceps Brachii at the peak of the contraction for a full second.

Muscle Anatomy

The primary driver is the Biceps Brachii. However, the movement also recruits Brachialis, Brachioradialis, Deltoids Anterior to maintain control of the Band.

Exercise Variations

  • Dumbbell Band Face Pull
  • Cable Band Face Pull
  • Banded Band Face Pull

Beginner Tips

If you are new to the Band Face Pull, focus on mastering the movement pattern with zero weight before adding Band.
